Gateway to Honors was an excellent course which introduced me to the benefits and responsibilities of a honors student. The advisors and student leaders were extremely helpful in clearing up doubts and questions. I was made to feel like a part of the group even though I could not attend a majority of the meetings and gatherings due to the semester being online and my time zone being too far ahead of the Eastern Standard Time. One of the most important parts of this class to me was the Clifton assessment, the results of the assessment pleasantly surprised me. But they have been a great help ever since; I have learnt to play around my strengths and values due to help I have gained from this class. Another important assignment was the goal setting, the honors department works closely with the competitive award department of UC and we were asked to draw up one major goal which we would like to achieve during our time at UC. I narrowed down my main goal to becoming a Rhoades Scholar, I believe setting up this one goal has helped me tunnel my focus on activities which will academically or socially help me in a meaningful way towards achieving the said goal. Having such a constant goal ahead of me has also relived me of unwanted pressure. The class is designed to gently guide honors student into becoming a model student while also helping them stay aware of the goals and tasks they are expected to do as a part of the honors department. I really enjoyed this class and the assignments during my first semester at UC.
