My second year at UC was one of the most formative and revolutionary year of my life so far. This was my first time at the UC campus, and it was everything I expected and better. Having never been outside my country earlier, the first few months were eventful for me to say the least. Arriving at UC, everything felt so massive and intimidating to me I somewhat went into autopilot for a while. I was also struggling with the cultural shocks that were being unloaded on me one after another at a constant pace. However, once I started meeting some new people, making friends, and becoming busier once the semester started; I started feeling incredibly welcome and loved at UC. I loved the classes I was taking, and I was over the moon to finally start learning physics at a collegiate level. Having my academics sorted, I started looking for clubs to join, and I came across two that I felt very passionate about: GlobeMed and Bearcat Motorsports. Making a first year mistake, I decided to join both of them. During my first month, Bearcat Motorsports had a fundraising opportunity at LS Fest, Kentucky. I was incredibly eager to go, and it ended up becoming somewhat of a road trip and a camping trip mixed together. I had a lot of fun, and learnt a lot about US culture around camping, food and cars. I also started attending GlobeMed meetings regularly, I met some of my best friends there; the club is incredibly well run and structured. I met a ton of ambitious people that wanted to make a real difference in UC and its student body. With everything going on, the fall semester came to an end fairly quick. During my winter break, I volunteered at the Cincinnati Animal Care Shelter, where I worked with some amazing people taking care of dogs. I also managed to get into a research opportunity with Dr. Connor Henderson where I am working on the standard model of physics. The spring semester started slow due to the two week online classes, but once we went back to in-person, everything fell back into place. This was one of the best semesters I had so far. The classes I was taking were academically challenging yet very fun, I was challenging myself academically, socially and physically. I decided to apply for on-campus jobs, and after a handful of rejections I managed to get myself the role of SRS leader in learning commons, I will be starting next semester and I am incredibly excited to hopefully help my fellow UC students. I also applied for the UC Next scholars program, it is a full ride scholarship program centered around innovation directly managed by the president of the university. I was one of the 15 students that were selected to be a part of the cohort this year. I look forward to being a part of the team and solving problems that impact UC and the community around it. This year was very challenging yet incredibly rewarding to me, I achieved a lot of things that I used to dream about growing up. I made tons of wonderful friends and developed some incredibly valuable relationships. I am very happy with how my life is structured right now, and I would love to keep developing myself going into next year.
